LMS Mentor Programs: Learning Pros Need Learning Too
As I’ve written about before, our global pandemic has allowed me the time to throw myself into all things pop culture. My current obsession? Re-watching Scrubs. For those who don’t know, Scrubs was a medical comedy that follows the lives of employees at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. The show is enjoyable for many reasons (think funny daydreams and quick wit), but it really thrives when they focus in on the relationships between characters.
There’s one relationship that I love more than any and it’s between the experienced Dr. Cox and newbie doctor, J.D. (the show’s main character). Throughout the series, Dr. Cox, a sometimes-cruel attending physician at the hospital, begrudgingly serves as J.D.’s mentor. While Dr. Cox is far from warm and fluffy, his mentorship is meant to provide the young doctor with the skills he needs to succeed in the volatile world of medicine. He teaches him how to apply what he’s learned in medical school in the real world, while always being there to back him up should something go awry. Re-watching the doctors in action and seeing their relationship bloom made me reflect on the importance of mentorship, especially when it comes to implementing new technology.
A Mentor Helps Make the Most of Your LMS
Investing in technology can be costly and time consuming, so if you have limited time and resources for implementation, wouldn’t you want an expert to manage the project? Or maybe you have the time and resources to do the implementation yourself, but wouldn’t it be great to have someone on your side, offering advice and best practices along the way?
When it comes to implementing an LMS and getting a training program up and running, there can be a lot to do. Even when the technology is easy to deploy (like Litmos Training), complex learning programs do require work to set up, especially for large organizations. You need to strategically build learning paths, course structures, teams, themes, users, and you may need to migrate historical learner data or other content – and the list goes on.
Why not get some help with all of that?
Do L&D Pros Suffer from “Shoemaker Syndrome?”
There’s an old parable about a shoemaker who is so busy making shoes for his customers that he forgets about his wife and children, and they go shoeless. In some versions of the tale, his own shoes are tattered and full of holes. The story is a reminder that sometimes we neglect our own best interests when we’re myopically focused on serving others.
L&D professionals spend their days helping other people learn. They certainly know the value of mentoring when they offer it to their learners. So why do they often neglect to ask for help themselves? Getting a bit of expert help is always a good thing! It translates into lasting advantages – whether we’re talking about a technology implementation or other kinds of training.
Some of our most savvy customers feel the same way. Here’s what our friends over at SEKISUI KYDEX have to say about the Litmos Mentor Program:
An overall five-star program. I have never had an easier on-board into a new system. [Our rep] was not only knowledgeable about the Litmos product, but he helped me navigate some aggressive content roll-out deadlines without skimping on quality.”
That’s what a great mentor can do!
But since I’m hooked on pop culture, I’ve sourced some quotes from movie mentors (some more questionable than others) to explain why you should consider using an Litmos mentor when implementing your LMS.
“There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.” – Morpheus, The Matrix
Our experts both know the path and have walked the path. Heck, they pretty much made the path. When it comes to Litmos and their knowledge of it, they can’t be beat.
“In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” – Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins
If I know one thing about the Litmos team, it’s this: we have fun. Our mentor team is full of personable and knowledgeable individuals who are enthusiastic about helping you succeed. You’ll feel like you have a real relationship with your mentor, not a robot.
“Hakuna Matata… it means no worries!” – Timon and Pumba, The Lion King
It really is a wonderful phrase. With an Litmos mentor, you’ll have no worries. No matter how many questions you have or emails you send, your mentor will be there for you.
“Truth is, there’s no one who can do what I do.”- Miranda Priestly, The Devil Wears Prada
I might be biased, but our mentors are rock stars. Their skills are incomparable and there really isn’t anyone who can provide the guidance like they can.
“Failure is not an option.” – Gene Kranz, Apollo 13
There’s not much to say here: these five words really capture the program. When it comes to helping you implement the solution, there’s no room for failure and our mentors will do all that they can to help you succeed.
