Will You be at DevLearn? Come See Us!
Sometimes instructional designers or other training professionals create content that doesn’t connect with certain audiences because it doesn’t “speak their learning language” or match their communication style.
For examples, running your wildest, fun and funky training (with brightly-colored, whizzbang graphics and slang text) for banking industry executives might not be the best idea. Or, if it is, let’s hope you knew why that would strike notes that resonated with those learners.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be a guessing game. And, if it currently is, there are techniques to fix it. There are proven approaches to determine who your audiences really are and create content based on their personality types. By taking this step, you can reach people in ways that make sense to them and help them better absorb and retain information.
Understanding and Harnessing Personality in Learning and Design
If this is a topic that piques your interest and you’re going to be at DevLearn, October 26-28, 2022, in Las Vegas, please plan to attend the Litmos session, led by Head of Customer Onboarding and Enablement, Mike Martin. He’ll present Understanding and Harnessing Personality in Learning and Design on Wednesday, October 26 at 3PM (PT). Look for complete information in the Instructional Design track of the conference agenda.
Here’s an overview of what to expect in the session:
Direct. Energetic! Detail-oriented. Strong. Compassionate. All ways to describe a person’s personality, or “the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character.” These inherent characteristics naturally surface in everything we do from meeting new people and interacting with our environments, and certainly also in our work.
As a learning professional, it’s a very helpful factor to consider when building learning content and facilitating learning experiences. In this session at DevLearn 2022, you’ll spend an hour exploring personality styles, how they influence your instructional style, and even how to “flex” your own style to engage more learning personas. This won’t be boring theory and sleep-inducing slides. You won’t want to miss this interactive and illuminating look at learning.
During this session, you will learn:
- Characteristics and behaviors of the most common personality types
- Your own personality type based on a five-minute, in-session test
- How to design learning that speaks to particular personality styles
We hope you join us for this illuminating and collaborative talk. In addition to the session, you’ll find us on the Expo floor, so come say “hi” and see a demo of the latest features in the Litmos LMS.
